Hi all. I am very new to outlook. can anyone tell me how to configure outlook express with various e-mail providers like Gmail, Yahoo, and hotmail? Since i have an account on both Gmail and Yahoo, I want to know how to configure outlook express with them. can anyone help me please? thanks!

as per the gmail, you can configure it by looking at the steps which they have given in their site. just google it. and as per yahoo, as far as I'm aware, you have to install third party software like (yahoopops) to configure it to outlook express.

Hi,

not going in to details here as I tried to, but I had gotten an error when I clicked on the post reply button and it was sure annoying as I had forgotten to copy the text to the clipboard. all the more reason I should begin to use firefox but anyways, ahem, I'm going off topic here...

What i'd do is create a rule specifying that all addresses sent to the name of your e-mail address, should be moved to a specified folder. that way you no which address is coming from which account.

Believe me, I have many addresses configured in OE, and after implementing your idea in to practice today, it works finefor me.

oh, thanks! , yes, it may work well, but i have a confusion in making rules... i try this way, but it moved messages in the system directory folder. yet, i've specified a folder in the D drive.

Hi,

With regard to moving messages to different folders, you can only move messages to folders created in outlook express/windows mail.

So create a folder in the respective program which you use, and then modify the rule if created, to point to that folder created in the program.

If you wanted to move your mail folder to another drive, you could create a folder in the d drive being your case, then in the OE/WM program, go to tools, options, advanced tab , choose maintenance, and finally choose store. In the dialog that comes up, you can change the folder to the newly created folder in drive d.

Hi sid,

I guess you are looking in the inbox, as aposed to the respective folders that you have set the messages to go to?

If everything as you say is correct, I presume that the messages are going to the respective folders therefore, they are not appearing in the inbox which, would seem like the reason for not seeing any of the mails from the accounts.

Hi Sid,

Do you perhaps have more than one identity setup in outlook express? meaning does anyone else besides you use outlook express as well?
If that is the case, you might want to try switching identities. I presume you maybe using the wrong one.

Also, when you startup outlook express, do you hear any sound at all indicating you have new messages? have you tried reading the status to know what's happening? Does outlook express give you any errors whilst in the program, or when you close it?

to quote you on one of your previous messages:
but i have a confusion in making rules... i try this way, but it moved messages in the system directory folder. yet, i've specified a folder in the D drive.
Could you please tell me how you managed to do that? since by default you can only create a new folder or choose a folder amongst the folders shown in the move it to a specified folder dialog.
I'm thinking, perhaps you somehow went wrong there although I fathom to understand how you did it.

Hi again,

just wanted to add some more things I forgot to ask in my previous post.

In one of my previous messages, I said:
If you wanted to move your mail folder to another drive, you could create a folder in the d drive being your case, then in the OE/WM program, go to tools, options, advanced tab , choose maintenance, and finally choose store. In the dialog that comes up, you can change the folder to the newly created folder in drive d.
Did you follow this at all?
or have you just specified the folder for the rules?
If you did follow this, are there any files in the folder that you changed the message store to on drive d?

hi, thanks for the help, now i have created rules for a new folder instead of d drive. and also, i have checked the identities, there is no one using outlook express accept me, so there is no multiple identities. well... there is no sound, its doesn't even show any new messages. i have checked all things you mentioned above, but, it connects to the server , and shows all old messages.

Hi Sid,

Here's a few things that might help:
1. I recommend that you delete all rules created thus far.
2. Try moving all messages from the inbox, if any, to another folder and delete the inbox.dbx file.
When you next open OE, it will create a new one, see if you are able to get any messages this time.

If the problem is still not solved, then I think it would be best to create a new identity, and setup your account details, hopefully everything will start to work again.
You can then import your messages from the old identity, once you've setup the account details.
